TAC Officers

Train / Advise / Counsel
>>> All TACs must attend a mandatory training day at Naval Station Great Lakes on 14 March 2009 <<<

Our TAC Officers will continue to have a have a broad role in the encampment.

We consider our TACs to be an integral part of the event, and therefore seek out members with
the ability to be both influential and invisible at the same time.

The TAC's basic mission:
Insure at all times that the cadets are safe.
Mentor and advise cadet leaders who need guidance.
Act as a front-line counselor for cadets having difficulty with the experience.
Provide feedback to the Senior staff regarding the "temperature" of the event.

That's the "influential " component.

The "invisible " part is more difficult.  Just as we hope our cadets excel, sometimes life's
most valuable lessons are learned from failure.  Effective TACs understand they are not part of the cadet
chain of command, and must walk the fine line between being helpful and letting situations unfold in safe
but "less than successful" ways to allow our cadet leaders to gain valuable experience.

The goal is to provide our flights with a high-level of TAC continuity.  In the past few years we achieved a level of
esprit de corps which was beyond our expectations, and will continue to build on this in 2009

We have three levels of TAC:

TAC - members with previous encampment and / or cadet experience (Spring experience a plus).
Full TACs are assigned permanently to a flight and  must be able to spend the entire encampment
          with us, both weekends.

ASSISTANT - members new to the encampment experience who are looking for ongoing encampment
involvement.  Many ATACs move on to be TACs the following year. It's preferred that you dedicate both
weekends, but some flexibility is possible based on situation. Previous experience is not required.

PART-TIME - members who would like to be involved but cannot dedicate themselves to the entire event.
In some cases a member cannot stay on base, or has some other commitment which limits the time
he or she can spend.  PT TACS are considered ad-hoc hands and will be utilized for a variety of duties.
TFO's will be considered for this role on an individual basis.

Minimum requirements:

TACs / ATACS:
Senior members in good standing who have completed level I.  Prefer to have members with at least
six (6) months experience and / or who are currently involved in active cadet programs in their home units.
Must be 21 years of age or older.

PT TACs:
Same as above, with the exception that TFO's under 21 years of age will be considered on an individual  basis.

The cost for those serving as TAC & ATAC is $35 to cover meals and the keepsake. PT TAC's will cover meal cost
as required based on the amount of time spent at the encampment.

The encampment staff reserves the right to refuse TAC applications.

If you are interested in this challenging and rewarding role, please submit an application .
