Health Services
Officer
The Health Services Officer (HSO) is primarily responsible for the
storage and tracking of cadet medications, as well
as emergency care in the case of accident or sudden illness.
The HSO reports to the Safety Officer with a
"dotted line" report to the Encampment
Commander during event preparation
or situations involving confidential medical information.
The duties of the Health Services Officer
include:
Consultation regarding cadet medical issues in advance of the
encampment, including discussions with
parents and/or other medical
professionals regarding a cadet's ability to participate.
Storage and facilitation of cadet medications during the encampment.
Monitoring of health issues such as hydration,
fatuigue, and sleep deprivation.
Consultation, in concert with the Safety Officer,
regarding activities and assocaited health risks.
Compliance with reporting requirements with regards to internal and external mishap reporting.
Emergency medical care (i.e. first aid), to the extent of their
respective training and as allowed by CAP
regulations
and policies in advance of, or in the abcense of, professional
Emergency Medical Care.
Those interested in serving as Health
Services Officer should have a strong
working knowledge of the Cadet Program,
CAP Safety polices, CAP Mishap reporting regulations, and at least
basic first aid training (as prescribed in the ES curriculm).
Previous encampment
or emergency services experience is preferred, though consideration may
be given for members
with professional medical training and/or are participating in the CAP
Health Services Officer specialty track.
Due to the hands-on nature of this position, the HSO is required
to participate in most planning activities from
January to April (and beyond), RST, and be available for the entire
encampment, including (preferably) the
entirety of both Fridays.
