Commandant of
Cadets
The Commandant of Cadets (CoC) is primarily responsible for the
curriculum, classes, and other activities
needed to fulfill the requirements of CAPR 52-16.
The CoC reports to the Commander, and is the direct report in the chain
of command for the entirety of the cadet cadre.
With the
guidance of the Encampment Commander, State Director, and other staff
officers, the Commandant
will work directly with the Cadet Commander and his staff to insure the
encampment provides engaging leadership
and
growth opportunities for the cadets, while at the same time meeting
regulations.
The CoC will also be responsible for updating the Cadet Operating
Instructions (OI), and any related documents or
orders.
Those interested in serving as Commandant should have extensive Cadet
Program experience, including (but
not required) service as a cadet. Current service as a leader in
their local squadron is preferred, and previous
encampment experience is a must, preferably in a meaningful role at
ILWG
Spring Encampment.
Due to the hands-on nature of this position, the Commandant is required
to participate in most planning activities from
January to April (and beyond), RST, and be available for the entire
encampment, including (preferably) the
entirety of both Fridays. In addition the Commandant will need to
schdule seperate meetings with the Cadet Staff
to create and streamline the schedule and curriculm.
Once selected, the Commandant will have a substantial role in the
selection of all Cadet Executive Staff positions,
line officers, and cadet support personnel, as well as input into
senior staff.
While the Encampment Commander is ultimately responsible for the
entirety of the activity, his role is more logistical
and guidance, while the Commandant holds the key position with regards
to the encampment experience of the
cadet participants who are ultimately the reason for the activity.
