Chaplain
The Chaplain is primarily responsible for moral leadership activities,
counseling cadets, and coordination
of religious services.
The Chaplain reports to the Encampment
Commander, and serves a variety of roles before and during the
activity.
In
addition to serving as an ad-hoc TAC Officer when needed, CAPR 52-16
requires the encampment provide
moral leadership training, and the Chaplain is charged with creating
and presenting this material.
He also serves as counselor for cadets (and the occasional senior
member) having difficulty with the
encampment experience, whether disciplinary, emotional, or other issues
which occur when cadets
are away from familiar surroundings for the first time.
The
Chaplain also coordinates and presents religious services for the
encampment. As in years past, we
will present a non-denominational service in the ship both Saturday
evenings, and anticipate having
a Eucharistic Minister available as well. The ability to provide
a means for participants to fulfill their
religious obligations within the assigned ship (versus the Navy
Chapel) saves us a significant amount
of our all too little time, as well as providing a more personal
experience for those who choose to participate.
Encampment Chaplains are usually requested to present a
non-denominational invocation during the
graduation Pass & Review the second
Sunday.
Those interested in serving as Chaplain must be fully-qualified and
current CAP Chaplains, preferably
with previous Cadet
Program experience.
The majority of the participation occurs during the encampment, however
some participation in the
planning process will be required, at least in as much as scheduling
and preparing the training activities.
RST is required, and the Chaplain should be be available for the entire encampment.
