Advanced Training Flight

Spring 2008 will see a number of changes, not the least of which is the structure and mission of the ATF.

This year we will grow ATF to a full Squadron with two (2) flights, limited to a maximum of twenty-six (26) total cadets (not including Flight Commanders). In addition, two (2) senior members have been appointed as dedicated curriculum advisors who's sole responsibility is the creation and execution of the classes and activities.

Another change is that all ATF cadets will serve as Flight Sergeant Trainees under the direct supervision of their respective Flight Commander and others in order to receive one-on-one real-world experience as a flight leader.  These rotations will occur on a scheduled basis, with the intention of allowing each ATF cadet at least two slots at moving and leading their flight.

The overall mission of ATF is:

Provide a series of rich, engaging, leadership and team building experiences for more advanced cadets who have already completed as least one  basic                                 encampment, including borrowing the best from Illinois and National leadership activities

Identify and prepare excellent candidates for future encampments and other ILWG cadet activities.

ATF is designated as the "bar" - our goal each year is to recruit cadets who are very proficient and active in the program to serve as the example to the other flights. ATF is expected to hit their marks every time, "first in, first out, looking tight and right".

Our less experienced participants should be able to look to ATF to see how and where to "get it done". In addition to participating in most group activities, as well as directed leadership breakouts, there may be opportunities for the ATF cadets to export their proficiency to the basic flights.

While drill, ceremonies, and attention to detail are important to ATF's success, attitude and bearing are just as important. If you know what "on the bounce" means, ATF is for you.

While ATF is open to any cadet who has completed their basic encampment requirement, it is really aimed at cadets in the mid-point of their CAP Cadet Career, therefore
weighting preference will be given to Senior NCO's and Lieutenants.  Applicants with less than two years in the program may be subject to a review by the Commandant of Cadets.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE FOR ADVANCED TRAINING FLIGHT ENTRANCE

Required training prior to the encampment for ATF includes root knowledge and instruction techniques that you must know INSIDE AND OUT before you arrive. You must also bring the required manuals.

During the activity, we will be applying this basic knowledge.

For reference, all information coming from the “Drill and Ceremonies Manual” or “D&C” refers to AFM 36-2203.
